On Father's Day Transpower handed the keys of a new home in Otara to the Alefaio family. The Transpower CommunityCare Fund contributed $25,000 towards Habitat for Humanity’s Wymondley Habitat Build, which is opposite Transpower’s Otahuhu substation.
The Wymondley Habitat Build project is an 11 home development for families previously living in substandard housing or in severe housing need. The CommunityCare Fund contribution went towards the final three homes of this project. The event yesterday was a dedication for two of these homes, with the third yet to be completed.
Paul Blue, Regional Services Manager of Transpower is pleased that the company’s CommunityCare Fund has supported the initiative. “Transpower’s activities often have an impact on communities,” he said. “So I’m pleased that we can give something back.”
“Habitat for Humanity has done a great job in South Auckland. Housing of this kind is so important for a community.”
Habitat for Humanity Auckland’s Resource Manager Conrad LaPointe stated “The grant from Transpower is one of the largest we have received this year. It has contributed greatly to our capacity to finish these homes and we are extremely grateful.”
The Transpower CommunityCare Fund supports communities impacted by Transpower’s projects and operations. In the past year the fund made grants totalling $1 million to 52 community-based projects nationwide. Projects included community house construction and restoration and assisting schools and sports clubs.
