Community
Community Initiatives
Our community initiatives are centred on giving back to the communities where our assets are located. We also have special partnerships with some community organisations and help people when they want to donate their time or money to charity.
CommunityCare Fund
The Transpower CommunityCare Fund assists communities affected by Transpower assets by investing in community-based projects that add real value and benefit to the wider community.
The CommunityCare Fund makes one-off grants for projects in communities along the National Grid route, as well as communities affected by new Tranpsower projects. We are currently seeking applications for projects in communities affected by the Wairakei to Whakamaru replacement line project and the Lower South Island and Clutha Waitaki Lines upgrades.
Computers for Community Groups
Sometimes we have computer and IT equipment that we no longer need. While this equipment may no longer suit our purposes it could be of use to your community group. Rather than get rid of it we’d prefer to see it reused before it is recycled.
Recently we've been able to help out:
- Titiro Whakamua Teen Parenting School, in Upper Hutt
- Karori Kids Preschool, Wellington
- Clyde Quay School, Wellington
- St Pius X School, Titahi Bay
If your community group is interested in obtaining Transpower’s spare IT equipment please contact us.
Environmental Benefits Programme
The Environmental Benefits Programme delivers social and environmental benefits to the areas where we undertake projects. This may be through directly supporting existing environmental programmes, or working with communities to establish a new environmental or amenity asset.

Partnerships
Transpower New Zealand recognises its responsibility to contribute to the communities in which it operates, and where its staff and customers live and work.
IPENZ Neighbourhood Engineers Awards
A partnership with the Institute of Professional Engineers NZ (IPENZ) funds the Neighbourhood Engineers Awards in primary and secondary schools.
The annual competition started in 2001 and aims to create a greater awareness of the engineering profession and encourage innovative thinking in the areas of engineering and technology, while meeting the objectives of technology curriculum.
Teachers, students and engineers work together to meet an identified need or opportunity in their school or local community.
Staff Volunteers
A staff-driven corporate donation programme includes:
- Supporting the Special Children's Christmas Parties - in towns throughout New Zealand.
- Matching Gifts programme - Transpower will match staff donations to registered charities.
- Staff volunteering programme - Transpower staff receive a Volunteer Day each year which they can use to work in a voluntary capacity for a community group of their choice
