Our green grid

The National Grid has been green for around 100 years.

It progressively displaced coal stations operating in our major cities up until the 1950s
It now connects 5622 MW of renewable energy (about 67% of New Zealand’s total electricity capacity) from many remote places around the country and transports it to towns and cities

New Zealand Energy Strategy

To meet the key objectives of New Zealand’s Energy Strategy, we’re investigating:

what more we can do to facilitate the connection of renewable generation to our grid
reducing our own carbon footprint through a healthier ‘low carb’ diet.

These initiatives are in addition to our Commitment to the Environment.
