Safety initiatives and resources

Ensuring a safe and healthy environment for our employees, contractors and the public is of paramount importance. Transpower is absolutely committed to developing a positive safety culture for all of our activities.

We are committed to keeping everyone who works on, and lives around, our assets safe, and aim to lead the industry in good safety practices.

To ensure the safety of the public, we have developed guidelines which aim to inform and advise on safe practises and activities around our transmission lines and substations.

We are also working closely with our contractors to implement major changes to improve safety performance, which include:

  • STAR Awards – our Safety Thanks and Recognition programme
  • SafeT ABC – Attitudes, Behaviours and Culture training
  • Monthly safety themes and initiatives
  • Random drug and alcohol testing at all sites
  • Improved Minimum Safety Operating Standards

STAR Awards

Transpower's STAR Awards recognise the importance of safety in our business and promote a positive safety and health culture in our industry. The programme is open to all Transpower, contractor and sub contractor and consultant employees.

Nominations for the 2012 STAR Awards are now open.
