Our Carbon Footprint findings
Transpower was responsible for 13,877 tonnes of CO2 equivalent in 2009-2010, or 17 tonnes per staff member. This is an improvement on the 2008-2009 total of 18 tCO2e.
Emissions of sulphur hexafluoride ontinue to dominate our carbon footprint, accounting for 56% of our total emissions. This gas has 23,900 times the global warming potential of CO2, hence any slight change in emissions of the gas has a large impact on our total footprint.
The second largest source of emissions was from subcontractor travel, which was measured for the first time this year, and represents 18% of emissions.
Electricity use, in some substations, was also included which increased the total contribution from electricity use from 8% to 12%.
