Our findings

Transpower was responsible for 10,139 tonnes of CO2 equivalent in 08-09, or 18 tonnes per staff member. This is a rise from 16 tCO2e in 05-06, but an improvement on the 07/08 total of 19 tCO2e.

Emissions of sulphur hexafluoride (SF6), continue to dominate our carbon footprint, accounting for 73% of our total emissions. This gas has 23,900 times the global warming potential of CO2, hence any slight change in emissions of the gas has a large impact on our total footprint.

The second largest source of emissions was from our office operations. This includes emissions resulting from staff travel (air and vehicle), the emissions resulting from consumption of electricity in our buildings, and from our waste.
