What are the categories and awards?

Categories

1. Top Project – The purpose of this award is to recognise the project with the best safety culture and performance record. The project could be a new investment, customer job, replacement, refurbishment or policy project, or maintenance job. The project should be able to demonstrate exceptional safety performance for the duration of the project.

2. Best Safety and Health Performance – The purpose of this award is to recognise the best ongoing performance by a team. The team will have a strong, collective safety culture, consistently demonstrate a commitment to safety and be able to cite examples of identification and resolution of safety hazards unique to the work they were undertaking.

 

3. Best Safety and Health Leadership (Individual) – The purpose of this award is to recognise consistent high performance from an individual in safety leadership, whether in the field, at the depot or in the office.

4. Top Depot or Office (maximum of one nominee from each participating company – Companies will run their own internal selection process for these finalists) – The purpose of this award is to recognise the best performing depot or office. The depot or office will have consistently demonstrated a proactive and collective approach to safety improvement, including an exemplary safety record.

5. Best Safety by Design for Projects or Maintenance – The purpose of this award is to recognise the best safety design in the planning stage. This design will be innovative, resulting in greater safety – for field workers and/or the general public.

6. Apprentice of the Year – The purpose of this award is to recognise consistent high performance in safety leadership, whether in the field, at the depot or in the office, from an apprentice.

7. Best Safety Innovation – The purpose of this award is to recognise the best safety innovation in the field. This is an approach, device or process specifically designed in the field to minimise safety risk, with a proven track record of achieving this.

Awards

The awards will focus on thanks and recognition for teams and individuals, and provide a high level of visibility to those who achieve awards. Everyone who is nominated will be recognised for their effort with a letter from our Chief Executive. Winners will be recognised at a safety awards dinner. A STAR Award trophy will be presented to winners in all categories. Individual winners will receive a cash prize of $500 and team winners will receive $1500 for a team event.
