Evans Chogumaira, Grid Planning and Development Engineer

What’s the best thing about working at Transpower?

There are plenty of opportunities to work collaboratively on projects and share knowledge, insights and experience.

Why would you recommend Transpower as an employer?

You have the freedom to pursue your interests. In addition to developing skills for your immediate role, general professional development is encouraged and supported. You can go on secondment to other groups in the company. Opportunities are only limited by your initiative!

How was the recruitment process?

The recruitment process was fast with constant updates on progress from the recruitment team. I could tell I was dealing with people who understand what looking for a job means.

The induction process was well structured and informative. During the induction workshop I met key people and was introduced to the culture and values for the company. It was satisfying to know where I fitted in right when it mattered - at the beginning!

Melissa Broomhall, Landowner Relations Advisor

Why did you join Transpower?

I wanted to work for a large New Zealand company within the energy industry and saw Transpower as the pinnacle. Having worked in the industry I knew my manager and wanted to work in his team.

What’s the best thing about working at Transpower?

The high level of induction training and support for new employees is great. When I started I was provided with the induction kit and promptly enrolled in a safety training day and induction workshop - both were excellent and made me feel part of the team.

Why would you recommend Transpower as an employer?

I have been very impressed with the quality of training and support that is available to both new and current employees. Coming from a non-engineering background I have found this invaluable in ensuring my level of knowledge is where it needs to be.

How was the recruitment process?

The process was very straightforward and easy, with great follow up at every stage. My role as Landowner Relations Advisor for the Lower North Island means I work out of both the Palmerston North and Wellington offices, so I thought the on-boarding process would have been difficult but it was very smooth.

Chris Allen, System Co-ordinator

Why did you join Transpower?

Transpower has an excellent reputation as an employer and the fact that Transpower is internationally recognised and recruits candidates the world over really appealed. Coming from overseas, Transpower offered a similar company structure and had similar ideals and business goals that I left behind in the UK but wanted to remain part of.

What’s the best thing about working at Transpower?

In my short time at Transpower, the friendly relaxed nature of all the staff I have met and the informal nature of the business which I think bring out the best in people.

Why would you recommend Transpower as an employer?

You are well looked after by the business, your colleagues and your supervisors.

You are supported as soon as you start. You are regularly asked how the training is going and whether you are experiencing any problems that can be put right or changed to make your training experience the best it can be.

How was the recruitment process?

It was excellent. As an international recruit the service from EQI Global was a great and gave me an invaluable introduction to Transpower as a business and an employer. The advice they gave me during the recruitment process made the task of Skype and video conference interviews much easier than I imagined.

Chris Sutherland, Treasurer

Why did you join Transpower?

The company has an excellent reputation and my role offers me wider experience and exposure compared with my previous roles and employers.

What’s the best thing about working at Transpower?

The people here are also friendly and open, which makes Transpower a good place to work. I like the leadership demonstrated from the Chief Executive and the Board down. Transpower has good leadership and values.

Why would you recommend Transpower as an employer?

The people make the organisation what it is. You get regular opportunities to interact with all levels of the company. And there are good opportunities to learn and develop here.

How was the recruitment process?

I was welcomed right from the start. I found the training useful and informative and it gives you a good opportunity to meet with other recent recruits and develop an internal network. I enjoyed the site visit and presentations. It is interesting to have a look at the equipment and operations and it helps in understanding the organisation in our day to day roles.
