Transpower is releasing an exciting update to our GIS/map services. A new improved platform will provide a better user experience for accessing, searching, viewing and downloading our public GIS/map data. We'll know more, including a release date, towards the end of April at which point this page will be updated.
In preparation for this change please be aware our existing GIS/map data services will be turned off shortly after the new platform is live. To ensure continued use of our data, applications using our existing services will need to be updated.
If you have any questions or concerns please contact email@example.com
Before you dig
If you are planning work near a Transpower asset, please use the BeforeUdig service rather than just using this data as there may be other services near the area from other companies.
Most of the data is publicly available under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 New Zealand License 3.0 CC-BY. You must attribute the data back to its original creator and have this license associated with the data at all times i.e. displayed on any maps, web sites, applications or printed material using this data.
You accept the terms when you use the data.
Some data is restricted and is only available to approved users or companies under a separate TP-Limited licence. These are clearly marked in the grid below. We may have other data available but not as a webservice, please contact the team at Geospatial@Transpower.co.nz if you have a specific request.
If you would like to access restricted data please click here for a form to request access.

GIS Data services
Some of Transpower's GIS data has been made publicly available to use in your own GIS system via various different types of web services or by download.
The data is refreshed every night, or when something changes, so is much more up-to-date than any static data you may have received from us in the past.
ArcGIS REST services can be accessed via the following link, under the "Public" folder: https://spatial.transpower.co.nz/arcgis/rest/services
For help, use this link for help on how to use the spatial site.
Details for the WMS and WFS services can be found by clicking the relevant link near the top left of each MapServer page.
Service Provider Boundaries and Cook Strait Protection Zone are only available through the services and not as a download.
Quick Extract Tool
Data extracts are available via this Quick Extract Tool link. Regional areas in the Quick Extract tool cover the extent of the Region but the data is not clipped to regional authority boundaries.
