Earlier today, the Office of Mayor Tony Kokshoorn issued a press release, incorrectly claiming that Transpower has proposed an increase in electricity energy charges to the Grey District.
The content of the press release is inaccurate and is actually discussing the Electricity Authority’s wider review of the Transmission Pricing Methodology which looks at the allocation of transmission charges across New Zealand.
Transpower does not decide how transmission charges are allocated nor does it have any part in this review being undertaken (except as a submitter to the process).
Transpower is 100% regulated - by the Commerce Commission who decides how much revenue Transpower can recover, and by the Electricity Authority who then determines how recovery of this revenue is allocated to customers.
The Electricity Authority has produced, and is currently consulting, on an options paper as part of this review. Queries around the allocation of transmission pricing and its review should be directed to the Electricity Authority.
