As part of the North Island Grid Upgrade Project, Transpower is currently stringing the new transmission line that runs through the Hinuera area.
There is currently only one line feeding power to the Hinuera area. In order to protect the power supply to Hinuera and the surrounding areas, Transpower needs to erect protective scaffolding and safety nets across this power line to protect security of supply to the area during stringing of the new transmission line.
Unfortunately this work cannot be safely undertaken live. Therefore, a power outage to Tirau and Putaruru will be required on Sunday 20 May 2012, 9am–4pm.
We recognise the inconvenience that power outages can cause therefore we will be providing generation to the CBDs of Tirau and Putaruru so that local amenities can continue to operate. However, in order to reconnect to the transmission line from the generation at the end of the outage, a short power outage to the CBDs is required between 5:00pm and 6:00pm for 30 minutes.
Preparing for the power outage
- Turn off all electronic appliances (microwaves, TVs, DVDs, computers etc).
If you are reliant on electricity for medical support equipment, please contact
your medical provider for advice.
- Lift and store enough drinking water from personal water wells before the power goes off.
- Fill up your gas cylinder for the BBQ and your petrol tank – remember pumps and EFTPOS won't work.
- Treat all powerlines and electrical wiring as being live at all times. Be aware that restoration could occur at any time without notification.
More information about the outage
If you require confirmation that your property is affected, please call your retailer (the company that you pay your power bill to) with your ICP number (found on the back of your power bill).
