Otahuhu–Wiri Transmission Capacity Investigation

Region Map

We need to continually operate, maintain and develop New Zealand's transmission network – the National Grid – to ensure we meet the ongoing electricity needs of New Zealanders.

Transpower is carrying out an investigation into the need for further capacity to meet peak demand at our Wiri and Bombay substations. This includes considering a number of measures either alone or in combination like new generation, demand response, upgrading existing lines, installing new cables and building a new substation.

We are currently consulting  with interested parties on the long list of options and key assumptions for the investigation.

Why we're doing it

Under certain operating conditions, we forecast there will not be enough transmission capacity to meet peak demand at our Wiri and Bombay substations from 2015.
