Transpower, as the system operator, is responsible for publishing the medium-term security of supply assessment (SOSA) annually. This assessment provides a 10-year assessment (2022 to 2031) of the balance between supply and demand in the New Zealand electricity system.
Its purpose is to inform risk management and investment decisions by generators, other market participants, and investors.
It forms part of New Zealand’s electricity security of supply framework. The system operator performs other security of supply-related functions described in the Security of Supply Forecasting and Information Policy (SOSFIP) and the Emergency Management Policy (EMP).
We are seeking feedback on the draft 2022 SOSA to consider prior to the final publication which will be no later than 30 June 2022

Consultation submissions for this year’s assessment should be emailed to the system.operator@transpower.co.nz by 5 pm on 8 June 2022. Submissions received after this date are unlikely to be considered. Please include the phrase “2022 Security of Supply Annual Assessment Submission” in the email subject header. Consultation questions are in the cover note, included in the list of documents above.
Submissions will be published on our website unless the submitter requests otherwise. Please clearly highlight any information or views that you which to remain in confidence (these will not be published).
