We need to continually operate, maintain and develop New Zealand’s transmission network – the National Grid – to ensure we meet the ongoing electricity needs of New Zealanders.

We are reconfiguring our equipment at the Wilton substation (known as the 110 kV bus).  The work will remove the present two level, two split bus and replace it with a single level but three split bus.

Why we’re doing it

The way our 110 kV network is configured at the Wilton substation means that certain types of fault at Wilton can lead to outages to parts of Wellington’s CBD and southern suburbs.

How it will affect you

The work may require some changes to where the final line terminations are made within the substation, and this may  impact on some of the taller vegetation around the facility - particularly the old row of pines facing Wadestown.
