During my summer at Transpower Wellington, I was part of the Grid Development Tactical Engineering team. Throughout this period, I was able to work across the tactical engineering team on projects involving transmission lines, cost estimation, and engineering consultancy.
Transpower’s internship programme is designed to ensure that interns can learn about both the technical and social sides of the company. Throughout my internship at Transpower I have been able to apply my degree, learn new technical skills and develop my workplace etiquette in a safe environment. Moreover, Transpower fosters a friendly learning environment, each person I was able to meet was extremely kind and excited to teach me a bit about their day-to-day life at Transpower.
My manager ensured I worked on a variety of projects related to my discipline and other areas to enhance my learning and professional development. I was able to develop my skills in Power BI, grillage foundations, data analysis and business processes, alongside having the opportunity to visit the Haywards substation and learn about the HVDC connection. Additionally, I participated in meetings between Transpower and consultants, gaining insights into how companies collaborate to ensure the upkeep of the national grid and forming connections with key individuals within the industry.
