We’re working at pace to connect new generation, batteries and load to meet New Zealand’s electricity needs into the future.
In the last few years, there's been a big increase in the number of electricity generation developers with projects they want to connect to the national grid. We're also seeing an increase in projects from electricity distribution networks and others to deliver more power to homes and businesses.
We're working hard to make these all these connections faster and reduce wait times.
Generation and battery connection projects
As of 1 May 2026 we are delivering 17 new generation projects which will collectively add 3,067 MW to New Zealand's electricity supply.
The graphic above is at 1 May 2026 and is an overview of our progress in connecting new generation and batteries to the national grid. Some projects include more than one type of resource (for example, projects of solar plus batteries). Stage counts show the number of Transpower connections, while technology counts represent the number of technologies connecting.
For a more detailed view of the generation and battery connection projects (as of 13 May 2026), you can download the data below.

Note: The order of the projects indicates the order in which we allocate resources, transmission assets and land.
Note: From our Nov 2025 update onwards, our pipeline data is formatted to split connections with multiple generation or storage stages or technologies, into one row per stage / technology.
Load and other customer projects
We're also delivering 18 projects for our network customers right now, increasing power supply to communities that need it, helping big industrial power users electrify their operations, supplying new industries, and relocating our assets when needed for other infrastructure projects. For an overview of the customer projects other than generation and battery connections that we are working on (as of 13 May 2026), you can download the data below.

Note: for these projects, we allocate resources based on priority, not necessarily in the order requests are received.
Connections discussion document for consenting authorities
Transpower analysis of the balance between electricity supply and demand over the decade to come shows that Aotearoa New Zealand must deliver new electricity generation faster if we are to reliably meet growing demand for electricity from communities across the country.
We have developed this discussion document to provide consenting authorities with this important context when reviewing and processing resource consent applications for renewable electricity generation facilities. We also welcome existing generators and prospective investors to share this document with authorities when discussing potential new generation facilities or making applications.

Maps
We have two interactive map tools that may be useful to those interested in projects and connections.
- TPR Envision shows current grid capability and where work and investment will be needed in the future. (This information is also presented in our Transmission Planning Report.)
- Envision Opportunities shows available capacity on our transmission network, to help developers when they are considering locations for new generation.
