Transpower has opened consultation on five draft scenarios describing potential future electricity needs in Aotearoa, to help understand what transmission infrastructure will be needed in 2050 and beyond as the country electrifies and grows.
The consultation is the next step in Te Kanapu, Transpower’s programme to develop a future grid blueprint.
“Electricity is a major enabler of economic growth, and the role electricity plays is only going to increase in the coming decades”, said John Clarke, Transpower Executive General Manager Future Grid.
“This consultation seeks feedback on our potential future scenarios of what New Zealand may look like in 2050.”
“We know that not only will the grid need to look different depending on how the economy changes, and different parts of the country will also vary in both in demand growth and generation needs.
“Our Te Kanapu programme has had excellent engagement from the sector already, and we look forward to hearing from a wide range of people and organisations to help make sure we’re heading down the right track,” said Mr Clarke.
Consultation is open now until 5pm, Friday 14 November on the Transpower website.
