It’s going to be tough for our judges this year!

Entries for Transpower's Engineering and Technology Excellence Awards closed on 1 July with a total of 62 received.

Judges Richard Templer, Marcos Pelanur and Elena Trout are meeting in the middle of August to review all the nominations before finalists for the five categories are announced in September.

The focus then turns to preparations for the highlight of the year - the Awards dinner and celebration held on October 14 at the Public Trust Hall in Wellington.

Executive General Manager, People Brighid Kelly says there is a lot of complex, high-technical and innovative work in the transmission sector that flies under the radar.

"Our industry is powering New Zealand today and into the future. These awards are all about celebrating those who demonstrate excellence and deliver outstanding solutions that improve the ways we work, raise our standards and deliver better outcomes for the people we serve.

"They are also a fantastic way of surfacing and sharing amazing stories of engineering and technological change and progress; stories that might otherwise go untold.

"With 62 nominations, the judges have their work cut out for them in identifying the finalists."

There are five award categories, plus the Supreme Award chosen from category winners. Categories are: investing in our industry's future; partnering for success; innovating for outcomes; engineering for value and solving complex challenges.

Ms Kelly says it is especially positive to see the number of nominations for projects delivered by more than one organisation.

"Partnership is at the heart of the transmission sector so to see 21 nominations for projects delivered by multiple businesses is a great reflection of just how collaborative our people are.

"A huge thanks to everyone who got involved by putting in a nomination and I look forward to sharing these amazing stories of excellence."
