Te Kanapu releases the technical approach to create a grid blueprint

Developing the Grid Blueprint

There’s a lot of elements that make up Te Kanapu, our initiative to create a future grid blueprint for Aotearoa.

To date, the team has talked with hundreds of organisations and individuals across the country to create five draft potential future scenarios, describing electricity demand. They’ve also looked at the likely cost and makeup of the generation stack in 2050.

Today we saw the next step, the publication of a suite of documents that outlines the technical approach we will use to create our first future grid blueprint.

Consisting of a range of documents written by Transpower staff and external consultants, the technical approach defines how we will take the inputs, run them through modelling and use the results to gain insights into what changes we might need to make to grid infrastructure right across the country.

While we aren’t formally consulting on this approach, we are publishing our technical approach to ensure we are open and transparent about how we propose to run the methodology. We welcome feedback from those with relevant experience and expertise to help us shape and refine our methodology and modelling.
