NZIER recently published a Special Feature on Te Kanapu in the September 2026 edition of Quarterly Predictions, one of their key publications available exclusively to NZIER members. The article brings together information drawn from our insights paper Fuelling growth by enabling a diverse mix of generation, EECA’s TIMES-NZ 3.0 model and other work completed by NZIER to provide deeper economic insight around the future of the electricity system.

The core of our evidence base for the Grid Blueprint is a robust cost benefit assessment. Te Kanapu have now published the methodology used for this work.

A new insights paper from Transpower’s Te Kanapu programme has been released as part of its work to develop a grid blueprint for 2050.
