During February we released our initial engagement paper as part of the development of a System Operator strategy. This outlined why a refreshed strategy is needed now, and set out the approach we are taking towards shaping the future of system operations.
The electricity industry is undergoing fundamental changes that affect every aspect of system operations. As technology advances and consumer participation grows, the System Operator plays a critical role in coordinating these shifts and mitigating associated risks. Our new strategy will take a ten-year forward view. A key purpose of it is to guide our investment planning for the 2028–31 System Operator funding period and beyond.
Our process includes two rounds of industry engagement. This first phase invited feedback on a broad review of trends and influences in our sector. We thank submitters for taking the time to provide insights to help strengthen and deepen our understanding of the priority issues.
The feedback we received will inform our second phase of engagement with stakeholders, including further consultation on the draft System Operator Strategy that is planned to start in mid 2026.
