Invitation To Comment: SOSFIP Consultation 2025 - Draft amendment proposal (Closed)

Submissions and cross submissions are now closed.

Earlier this year we invited feedback on an Issues paper to inform the scope of this SOSFIP review.  The feedback we received confirmed general agreement that a SOSFIP review is timely. The electricity sector is evolving rapidly, with increasing reliance on intermittent renewable generation and heightened risks to natural gas supplies. This review aims to ensure the SOSFIP remains fit for purpose, supporting security of supply in New Zealand’s power system.

The draft amendment proposal reflects feedback from our earlier Issues Paper, and addresses key topics including risk curve assumptions, capacity risk assessment, and access arrangements for contingent storage.

Feedback received during this consultation will inform the final amendment proposal that Transpower, as System Operator, submits to the Authority later in 2025.

We hosted a special System Operator Industry Forum to present the draft SOSFIP amendment proposal, watch the forum here SOSFIP Consultation Information Session 21 Oct 2025.
