Transpower today advised that it had completed its geotechnical investigations as part of its project to reinforce supply to Gore and surrounding areas.
The new section of line connects into Gore from an existing 220 kV transmission line to the south of the town. It will be built with double-circuit transmission line poles which were preferred by the community when Transpower consulted on options for the work.
Transpower’s project manager for the new line section, Caroline McLean, says that the work ensures all on the ground data is obtained and confirmed prior to the start of the actual construction.
“Undertaking the geotechnical investigations helps us to understand the ground conditions we’re working on, so that when we arrive on site to put foundations in and poles up later this year we know exactly what we are working with. This helps reduce the level of disruption to landowners and the community.
“We’ve also started putting the necessary access tracks in to allow the later transport of heavy equipment and vehicles to site during construction,” she said.
Most of the construction work will be undertaken over next summer with the foundations and poles expected to be constructed over December/January, and the wiring taking place over February/March 2018.
In addition to the small new section of transmission line, new transformers will be installed at the Gore substation (also due for completion in 2018).
