Women of Transpower

To better understand what helps women thrive here, we asked them! Our wāhine (women) told us having opportunities to grow, share knowledge, and work with flexibility and autonomy are key reasons why women stay at Transpower.

The following themes reflect more detail on what our women have told us:

Growth and Development - Careers that evolve with you
Women here don’t just have a job; they find room to grow. Whether you are starting out in your career, moving up or shifting direction, development conversations and opportunities are core to how we work. Career paths are flexible and supported, with opportunities to move across the business, take on stretch roles, and shape your future in a way that works for you.

Culture and Purpose - Proud of what we do, proud of who we are
There’s a strong sense of mutual support and respect. Women describe Transpower as a place where knowledge is shared, collaboration is genuine, and different perspectives are valued. A shared purpose brings people together. People stay at Transpower because they know their work matters - and they’re proud to contribute to something larger than themselves.

Flexibility and Support - Careers with life in mind
Women at every stage of their career, from those just starting out to parents and carers to experienced leaders, feel trusted and supported. With flexible start and finish times available for most roles, spending at least three days a week in the office or on site* helps build strong relationships, supports learning, enables performance, and sustains our culture.

Women feel respected for what they bring and trusted to manage how they work.

*Some roles have more specific requirements.

While we have roles for all sorts of skills, experience and knowledge at Transpower, this video offers a great insight into what it’s like to work here: Women in Engineering (video) The video was generated to reflect women in engineering at Transpower.

Time away from work that supports life’s important moments

Our leave provisions support employees welcoming a new child to their family. This includes permanent employees receiving government-funded parental leave receiving a top-up from Transpower to 100% of their salary for up to 26 weeks (with a salary cap of $200,000).

Four weeks annual leave and a corporation day is standard. An addition two days: My Day, and Volunteer Day become available after 12 months continuous service. Following five years of continuous service, five weeks annual leave becomes available for permanent employees recognising the value of tenure and the importance of time for non-work activities.

We also offer salary sacrifice to enable up to two weeks of “lifestyle leave” to provide additional leave flexibility.
