Why did you join Transpower?
I chose Transpower because of its central role in enabling the electrification of Aotearoa New Zealand. I wanted to work on projects that would contribute to our goals for a net-carbon zero economy, and to participate in strategic decisions that support our country’s sustainability goals.
What about your role makes you proud?
I believe that Transpower plays a key role in making New Zealand a better place to live and work, and I’m proud to contribute to that. I’m particularly proud of how Transpower is helping the country move away from non-renewable energy sources and supporting the journey towards net carbon zero emissions. My colleagues are committed to delivering solutions that support this goal, and that makes for an inspiring culture to work in. Transpower has roles for all sorts of individuals, and it’s this diversity of experience and thought that will make a difference as we prepare for the future.
What is your favourite part of your job?
My favourite part of my job is being at the heart of project management where I can see ideas growing from concepts into real life outcomes. I enjoy collaborating with my colleagues from different parts of the business, and with external partners on projects. I get a lot of satisfaction from guiding these projects from start to finish, especially when I pause and remember that these projects are helping enable New Zealand’s electrification.
Mike leads a team of project managers who figure out how our grid projects are going to be built – what challenges each one will run into, and how to resolve those challenges. Their work to plan out projects for delivery by investigating what will be needed is essential to keeping work on time and within budget – ensuring Kiwis get good value from maintaining and developing their national electricity network.
